October 2022 Updates

Hi friends! I hope you had a wonderful October. Ours was
good and full, as always. Whatever we’re doing, whether it’s a trip to town, a
hike, relaxing or working on projects around the house, or enjoying some time
outdoors, our Berners love to be right there.

We were blessed with a bounty of apples from our orchard,
and of course, the Berners joined us to harvest them.

Bourne was the first to
help himself to an apple, actually picking one off a low branch on a tree. Brandi
and Bryshka had soon found apples for themselves, too.

Bulochka was the polite
one and waited until Mama gave her an apple. 😊

“What You give
them, they gather in;
You open Your hand, they are filled with good.”
Psalm 104:28

Brandi’s puppies (Litter D) all went to their new homes. We’ve
enjoyed hearing from their new families over the past couple of weeks. It
sounds like the puppies are very well-loved and fitting right in!

After Brandi’s puppies left, we did a thorough clean of our
whelping room and will soon be finishing up some organizing and final touches
to prepare the room for our next litter of puppies, because…

We are expecting a litter from Bryshka, due November 10th!
Bryshka is our Russian beauty—sweet and fun with lots of personality. She did
excellent in the show ring in Europe, placing “Best in Show-Baby” and “Best
Puppy.”

Bourne, our champion boy from a top breeder in Hungary, is
the father of this litter.

Well, until next time!

September 2022 Updates

Hello friends! I hope you’re having a good start to your fall! Our dogs love the cooler weather and being part of our autumn adventures.

Bulochka went along on a birthday special day ride and hung out close by while her humans roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over a campfire.

Bourne came along on a trip to town and went in the hardware store.

Bulochka and Bryshka both came along on a hike. (Bulochka wasn’t posing very well for pictures that day, though. 😊)
Brandi’s litter of puppies are seven weeks old now and growing great. They get lots of attention and socialization, love human interaction, and are great with children and people of all ages.
Here are some pictures of the puppies taken over the past couple of weeks.

We take turns choosing names for the puppies. This litter, Mama (Debbie), Sophie, Louis, and I (Savannah) chose the names. Mama chose Denali for the girl after the mountain Denali in Alaska. Mama loves mountains. Denali’s new family plans to name her Cascade after the Cascade mountains, and Cascade is what Mama named a puppy from our last litter! I chose Dynamite for one of the boys. We like to choose Montana/mountain-ish names, and I thought of the dynamite used by miners and railroad workers in Montana in the past, and I thought it made a cute name. Sophie likes to choose unique, nature-themed names, and she chose Deep, thinking of deep water. Louis likes to choose names of places in Montana, and picked Drummond, after Drummond County, Montana. Drummond is also a Scottish word meaning “ridge.”

It’s fun for us to watch them and see which puppies exhibit more of their mother, Brandi’s, traits, and which ones take more after their father, Bourne. Drummond (pictured above) looks an awful lot like his mother in that photo.

Their new families all chose their puppies either through a visit in person or a video phone call. It’s great to see how excited the families are and know our puppies will be very well-loved! While it’s important for their development for the puppies to spend lots of time with their mother and littermates while they’re this young, we’ve also started working on separating them for short times to help them transition to their new homes.

Well, it’s been a good month! Until next time, friends!

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,
And His greatness is unsearchable.”
Psalm 145:3

August 2022 Updates

August has been a good, full month. Bulochka’s puppies (Litter C) all went to their forever families.

Clara

Cascade, now named Everest, was the last to go. She’s the image of her mother, and such a darling!

Everest (Cascade)

A few days before Everest went to her new home, Brandi had a litter of four healthy puppies, three boys and a girl. They’re just over a week old now, and growing great.

Our mama dogs get some special additions to their food to make sure they’re getting all the nutrients they need to care for their babies and bounce back well after pregnancy and delivery. One of the goodies we’ve been giving them is turkey bone broth. We raised turkeys last year (on healthy, corn-free, soy-free, organic feed!). When we cook up one of our turkeys from the freezer, after making some meal portions and a pot of soup for the human members of our family, we cook down the bones to make some broth for our dogs.

Summer is birthday season for us, and on Sadie’s birthday, we enjoyed an afternoon at the lake. Bulochka and Bryshka came along and had a great time cooling off in the water and relaxing in the shade nearby.

Bryshka also came along to the county fair with us. She had a grand time meeting new people and taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells.

It’s been a great month, and we’re looking to September and the beginning of fall with joyful anticipation!

“This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24

Puppy Pictures to Make You Smile

Just a little sampling of some recent puppy pictures! We hope they make you smile. 😊

Puppy Update

Bulochka’s puppies are 4 weeks old now, and growing great! They’re still nursing some, but have begun to eat a puppy food mash with ground beef, yogurt, and pumpkin. They also enjoy lapping up bowls of their goat’s milk formula.
These puppies are the sweetest little things, and LOVE attention. Keep scrolling for the latest pictures of these little darlings!

A Peek into the First Week of Puppy Care

Bulochka’s puppies are one week old today! It’s been a busy first week. We decided on “C” names for all ten of these cuties. The boys are Cody, Clark, Cedar, Coco, and Cliff. The girls are Cascade (or Cassie for short), Cherry, Cora, Clover, and Clara.

Someone is on duty watching Bulochka and the puppies 24/7 right now. They’re nursing well, and since it’s a large litter, we’re also supplementing with some bottle feeding. It’s an interesting recipe we used to create a formula that’s as close to the mama dog’s milk as possible. It includes goat’s milk, beef liver broth, and other delectables. Yum!
We do a weight check on them every day, and they’re all growing great. They also got a nail trim.

The puppies are receiving lots of attention and cuddles from our family, and socialization with a wide range of ages.

Overall, the first week has gone great! We’re enjoying loving on our puppies and preparing them for their forever homes.

Newborn Puppies!

Bulochka’s puppies were born on June 4th! She’s doing great with her litter of five boys and five girls. All of the puppies are thriving and have perfect markings!

About the parents:

Sire, Bourne, won a championship title in Hungary and his pedigree can be directly traced back to some of the very first Bernese in Switzerland in 1906. Dam, Bulochka, is from a well established breeder in Ukraine. Her parents are both champions and her pedigree is known for health and longevity.

Upcoming Litter of Puppies!

We have a confirmed litter of puppies on the way! Bourne and Bulochka’s puppies are due on June 3rd, and will be ready for their new homes around July 29th (at 8 weeks old).

Bourne (the father)

We imported Bourne from Mikes Uti Kennel, recognized as a top breeder in Hungary. Bourne did well in the show ring in Hungary, earning his baby champion title and best baby male. His siblings have also done well in the show ring, and he has many champions in his pedigree.

He is a giant teddy bear, very much a “Velcro” Berner; he loves being with his people. He’s very gentle, which is great considering he weighs around 120lbs. Bourne loves going on hikes, car rides, playing “fetch,” and just chilling next to you.

Bourne comes from a great, documented, healthy line, going back to the Van’t Stokerybos kennel-check out his pedigree!

Also, check out his dad’s pedigree on Ingrus.net here

Bulochka (the mother)

Bulochka (affectionately nicknamed Bulka or Bulki) is our sweet girl we imported from Montbright Bernese in Ukraine last year.

She’s also what they call a “Velcro dog,” sticking very close to her people, especially Mama (Debbie). Bulki is gentle, yet extremely loyal and protective of her people. Bulki’s quick to want to please her humans and makes you think it would break her heart if you weren’t happy with her. She loves finding a quiet place to hang out in the house and going for walks.

Bulochka comes from great healthy lines. Both her parents are champions in Ukraine and she has many more champions in her impressive pedigree.

Dog Spotlight: Bulochka

Bulochka (affectionately nicknamed Bulka or Bulki) is our sweet girl we imported from Ukraine last year. We saw the picture of her and fell in love. Really, have you ever seen such a loveable doggie face?

She’s what they call a “Velcro dog,” sticking very close to her people, especially Mama (Debbie). Bulki is gentle, yet extremely loyal and protective of her people. Bulki’s quick to want to please her humans and makes you think it would break her heart if you weren’t happy with her. She loves finding a quiet place to hang out in the house and going for walks. If she sees you putting on your coat and shoes, she’ll be right there, tail wagging, ready to go outside with you. And speaking of her tail wagging, she gets very excited when people start getting up in the morning. The thump-thump of her tail on the floor is often one of the first sounds we hear at the beginning of the day.

She has great lines-both parents are champions in Ukraine.

Lord willing, we expect Bulki to have her first litter of puppies this summer. We’re super excited to see her babies! As always, feel free to contact us for more information. And have a wonderful spring!

Puppy Update

The puppies are seven weeks old now and getting cuter each week! Last week, they went to the vet for a health check. All five of these adorable babies are doing well and growing great.
After their trip to the vet, we took them outside for their weekly photo shoot.

Later, some of the puppies were being especially sweet and cuddly, and we snapped a few more photos.

These pups are all spoken for and will be going to their forever homes very soon.
If you’d like to be put on the wait list for our next litter (if all goes well, we will have a litter this summer), call or text (406) 506-8226 or head over to our Good Dog page
